Workshop recap: Kode With Klossy in ATL

    August 31, 2017

We are so excited to celebrate the launch of Kode With Klossy in the beautiful and absolutely peachy city of Atlanta! This past weekend we hosted our first weekend coding workshop hosted by our friends from Spanx and the Sara Blakely Foundation.

Supermodel and entrepreneur Karlie Kloss and businesswoman and philanthropist Sara Blakely are both passionate about empowering women in the digital age, and decided to team up to provide computer science education opportunities to young women and girls in the Atlanta area. The special three-day “back-to-school” program took place at the Spanx headquarters, where 25 local girls ages 13 to 18 learned the fundamentals of coding, including JavaScript and P5 game animation and creative app development.

Today, only 18 percent of students entering university computer science programs are female and only 26% of the workforce in tech is female. Kode With Klossy is working to bridge the gap of women in tech by providing hands-on experiences and connecting girls with role models in tech and the business world. This coding workshop like many others supported by Kode With Klossy is designed to inspire young women to pursue careers in tech and take advantage of the professional opportunities in this male-dominated field.

This dynamic group of young women brought lots of passion and fun to workshop each day - and focused that energy building new skills with code and strengthening their local community of women in tech!

This event marks the beginning of our “back-to-school” season of new program partnerships and we cannot wait to see what these students will do with the skills they learned this weekend.
